Read full disclaimer. What is a Mezcal Mule Mocktail?
A spinoff of the classic Moscow Mule made with vodka, a Mezcal Mule is the same, but using smoky mezcal instead.
This blend of smoke, spice, and citrus is heavenly, and there are some non-alcoholic spirits that nail the smokiness pretty well to make a tasty mocktail version.
Ingredients in a Mezcal Mule Mocktail
1. Ginger Beer
Ah, ginger beer, my sweet, spicy, flavorful friend. This mixer is by far the best for easy mocktails. Luckily, there are many brands to choose from, and you should find your favorite. My go-to is Fever Tree Light Ginger Beer. It’s a little less sweet than the regular one and has less calories.
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can mix this mocktail with fresh ginger syrup and soda water, but that takes waaaaay too much time and effort. Plus, it’s hard to get the blend right.

2. Non-Alcoholic Mezcal or Tequila
There are a couple of non-alcoholic spirits that work great in this non-alcoholic Mezcal Mule:
- Ritual Zero Proof Tequila Alternative
- Monday Zero Alcohol Mezcal
3. Fresh Lime Juice
Lime juice, fresh squeezed is best in your Mezcal Mule mocktail, but I have found a lime juice in a jar that works really well too. Santa Cruz Lime Juice is organic and not from concentrate. it’s great in a pinch, or when you need to batch a lot of mocktails.
Normally, you would stop here with your Mezcal Mule mocktail recipe, but trust me. Add cucumber.
4. Cucumber
The secret ingredient in this delicious mocktail – cucumber! This lifts and brightens the drink, balancing the boldness of the ginger beer and the tangy lime juice.
How to Serve a Non-Alcoholic Mezcal Mule
Glassware
A copper mug is the classic choice for a Moscow Mule mocktail recipe, but this is no classic beverage. I like to serve it in a rocks glass so you can see the beautiful color and garnish on the drink. Either way, it will taste the same, so take your pick!
Garnish
With this mule mocktail recipe, I recommend a slice of cucumber on top of the drink with a dash of cayenne pepper. These aromatics are perfect for one of my favorite non-alcoholic drinks.
Of course, lime wedges and lime wheels are classic too, if that’s all you have on hand.
