Trader Joe’s Non Alcoholic Wine Selection is Slim

Non-alcoholic beer and wine have become a mainstay in social gatherings, parties, and holiday celebrations. As the demand grows, more and more retail stores are putting up various non-alcoholic wine options on their shelves, but Trader Joe’s hasn’t fully adopted the trend yet.

Though it’s not labeled a non-alcoholic wine, the only Trader Joe’s non-alcoholic wine substitute is their Sparkling White Chardonnay Grape Juice.

Compared to the competition, Trader Joe’s is one of the only grocery store chains that doesn’t carry some of the popular brands of non-alcoholic wine.

Does Trader Joe’s Sell Non-Alcoholic Wine?

Trader Joe’s, one of the biggest chains of grocery stores across the United States, carries one type of wine substitute: a sparkling grape juice.

Below are Trader Joe’s selection of non-alcoholic drinks intended as substitutes for wine.

Trader Joe’s Non-Alcoholic Wine Selections

If you’re looking for an alcohol free wine at Trader Joe’s, below are your only options.

Sparkling White Chardonnay Grape Juice

The Sparkling White Chardonnay Grape Juice is Trader Joe’s beloved and popular fizzy non-alcoholic drink. Intended as a special occasion drink for anyone who is not an alcohol drinker or simply would like to cut down on their alcohol intake, especially during the holidays.

This has been exclusively made with Spanish-grown Chardonnay grapes, the same ones they use for their alcoholic Chardonnay wines. The only difference is they are never fermented.

The beverage is then infused with lots of bubbles and fizz so you can enjoy the sweet and refreshing flavor with some fizzy fun.

As a grape juice, this sparkling beverage is packed full of sugar – 59g per 12oz pour. This is much more sugar than found in other non-alcoholic wines.

Each bottle is also infused with a small amount of citric acid and vitamin C to naturally preserve and acidify the beverage.

This is available in Trader Joe’s in a fancy and foiled 750-mL bottle.

Sparkling Apple Cider

Trader Joe’s also carries Sparkling Apple Cider, their own take on the classic beverage.

This non-alcoholic selection tastes sweet, juicy, and a little tart. Just like Trader Joe’s Sparkling White Chardonnay Grape Juice, this beverage has been carbonated for a bubbly festive texture.

Try pairing this with a bowl of mussels in a garlic parsley broth.

The store sells them in a 750-ml bottle as well.

Sparkling Cranberry Ginger Beverage

Another much-beloved holiday drink is Trader Joe’s Sparkling Cranberry Ginger Beverage.

Unlike most festive drinks you can find on tables during the holidays, this is 100% alcohol-free. This tastes refreshing and has a full flavor profile thanks to the combination of ginger juice, concentrated cranberry juice, carbonated water, and sugar.

You can enjoy the tangy full flavor plus warming ginger spice with a ton of tiny bubbles every time you take a sip.

It has a burgundy-red color and looks like it could be a Lambrusco or sparkling non-alcoholic red wine. It’s perfect for serving with either appetizers or with your main course. And because it comes in a can packaging, it can also be the perfect refreshing drink at the end of any day.

Are Trader Joe’s Non-Alcoholic Wines Really 0% Alcohol?

When you’ve only started taking an interest in alcohol-free beverages, it’s important that you know whether non-alcoholic beverages truly contain zero alcohol or not.

Not all wines and beverages marketed as “non-alcoholic” are 100% free from any alcohol content. Most alcohol-free wines, beers, and beverages contain less than 0.5% ABV (alcohol by content).

Though the number isn’t exactly 0%, this amount of alcohol is so small compared to the amount of alcohol in typical alcoholic drinks. Also, half a percentage of alcohol wouldn’t have the same intoxicating effects as regular alcoholic beverages.

Beverages must have less than 0.5% ABV to be considered “non-alcoholic”.

While it’s true that not all non-alcoholic beverages contain 0% alcohol, there are still some that are. You just have to dig a little deeper if that’s what you would prefer.

Conclusion

As more and more people are choosing non-alcoholic beverages over alcoholic ones, many grocery stores and retail supply chains across the country are responding to the growing demand.

Trader Joe’s has been slow to adopt this trend, and still only offers sparkling Chardonnay grape juice as a non-alcoholic white wine substitute. In addition, it offers several non-alcoholic carbonated beverages that Trader Joe’s fans love, and two of them are listed above.
